The KML Foundation exists to offer financial support to Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School and its students. Each year, the Foundation makes its distribution in January. The money was disbursed a few weeks ago, so this is really the Foundation’s best time of the year!
The distribution this year was over $102,000 and was directed to KML Student Assistance and various college scholarships. In comparison, last year’s distribution was $90,000 and the year before was $55,000. Clearly, the KML Foundation is making a significant impact!
The annual distribution is based on the amount of money that is invested in the Foundation’s endowment funds. Each year, the Foundation board authorized 5% of the assets to be awarded. That amount has grown dramatically over the years, and the distribution reflects that growth.
Contributions to the KML Foundation have come from many sources. The largest gifts are estate gifts from people who named the Foundation in their wills or trusts. We also receive money from Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from people who make donations from their IRA accounts. In addition, our golf outing and clay shoot are two events that generate a lot of income. In addition to those sources, we also receive cash and checks from people who simply want to help add to the Foundation’s impact.
Regardless of the type of gift, each dollar will benefit current and future KML students. This is the real joy of the Foundation, and especially at this time of the year when those distributions are made.
